3rd Annual Havana Film Festival in New York
April 18 - 27, 2002
 
The 3rd Annual Havana Film Festival New York showcased the best in Latin American cinema in Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx. Actors and directors from Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, and Mexico presented their films establishing a more direct and enriching relationship with the public.

Festival focus
The symbiotic relationship between Latin American literature and filmmaking. Features included:
 

-	Humberto Solas (Cuba), El Siglo de las Luces (The Century of Enlightenment) based on Alejo Carpetier's book
-	Eliseo Subiela (Argentina), El Lado Oscuro Del Corazon 2 (The Dark Side Of The Heart 2) inspired by Mario Benedetti's poem Tactica y Estrategia, (national premiere)
-	Lisandro Duque (Colombia) Milagro En Roma (Miracle In Roma), screenplay written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

More than 50 titles included:

-	Worldwide premieres
-	Exclusive screenings of award-winning films and documentaries
-	Experimental shorts that normally do not receive commercial exposure and
-	Classic Cuban films directed by legendary filmmakers: Tomas Gutierrez Alea, Humberto Solas and others.

Highlights:
 

-	A tribute to Humberto Solas, master of esthetic and poetic images with his latest film Miel Para Oshun (Honey for Oshun), the first Cuban film made with digital technology (opening night)
-	Eliseo Subiela (Argentina), No Te Mueras Sin Decirme A Donde Vas (NY premiere)
-	New directors and new films:   Taxi Para Tres by Orlando Lubber (Chile) winner, San Sebastian Film Festival, Spain Los Niños Invisibles (Columbia) by Lisandro Duque Naranjo Hasta Los Huesos (Down to the Bone) by Rene Castillo (Mexico) Best animation, Guadalajara, Huesca, Havana Film Festivals Video de Familia by Humberto Padron (Cuba) winner, best short film at the VI Festival of Latin Cinema in Los Angeles
-	Homage to Cuban actors Adela Legra and recently deceased Adolfo Llaurado, stars of the films Lucia and Manuela
-	Tribute to The International Film and Television School of Cuba (EICTV), for 15 uninterrupted years of work as one of the best in the world in its genre
-	La Festa De Margarette (Margaret's Party) by Renato Falcao (Brazil) (world premiere)
-	Humberto Solas introduces the first International Low Budget Film Festival (El Festival Internacional del Cine Pobre) scheduled to take place in Cuba, April 16-20, 2003
