1st Annual Havana Film Festival in New York
March 18 - 26, 2000

The 1st annual Havana Film Festival in New York, March 18-26, founded by Marcia Donalds, Kenneth Halsband and Carole Rosenberg, held at Anthology Film Archives celebrated the 41st anniversary of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC). Iván Giroud, Director of the International Havana Film Festival, Cuba programmed more than 40 films including features, documentaries, shorts and animation produced during the past 41 years presented the Cuban in many roles.

- Award winning films from the International Havana Film Festival, Cuba
- Important Cuban filmmakers, Juan Padrón, Fernando Pérez, Gerardo Chijona, Arturo Sotto, Rigoberto López presented their films and participated in panel discussions.
- Harry Belafonte opened the festival and introduced Juan Padrón and his film Vampiros en Habana/Vampires in Havana, 1985.
- T. G. Alea, El Art del Tabaco/The Art of Tobacco, 1974
- Miriam Talavera, Espiral/Spiral, 1992
- Oscar Valdés, Vaqueros del Cauto/Cowboys of Cauto, 1965
- Guillén Landrian, Cafe Arabiga/Raw Coffee, 1968
- Filminutos, a series of animated shorts and a special program of short films from Cuba's International School of Film and Television
- Special screening: Madagascar by Fernando Pérez at New York University, Tisch School of the Arts, Film and Television Department Director's Series
